Aimed at secondary school students and undergraduates, GUT's is their opportunity to see some of the UK's most exciting engineering inventions, and interact with the people who design, build and operate them. GUT's is a forum for students and school leavers to speak to employers, inventors, apprentices and education providers to see what a future in engineering may hold for them.
Previous events have been a chance for visitors to see some of the fastest vehicles and people on earth alongside cutting edge innovators and innovations.
Attendees get to see how success is achieved and what it means to those involved. They learn about the fundamental roles that design, engineering and manufacturing play in that success. This annual event is specifically designed for young people, their families and teachers to come together with some of the world leading enablers and manufacturers.
Get up to Speed has now been attended by over 6500 people in the past 5 years, around 80% of whom were young people, families and teachers. Companies and apprentices sharing their viion included Firth Rixson Ltd, Tata Speciality Steel, William Beckett Plastics, Tinsley Bridge, Newburgh Engineering, Kostal, Davy Markham, AESSEAL, Gripple, Chesterfield Special Cylinders, Siemens VAI, Rolls Royce and JRI Orthopaedics.
Attractions and interactive learning activities have included, Bloodhound, Vestas World Record Sail Rocket, Quicksilver, Marussia F1 Car and Simulator, Vulcan to The Sky, AMRC Mantra Vehicle, British Triathlon Team, Virtual Education Experience (PES), WMG World First F3 Car plus many more.
